Isobel Memorial Mixed Bonspiel –November 23rd, 2024
The Isobel Munro Memorial Mixed Bonspiel was held last Saturday at the club. This sold out event featured 16 teams, including 5 visiting teams from as far away as Montreal. The Munro family was well represented with three generations in attendance, coming from as far away as Colorado.
All teams played two 8-end games and were treated to a delicious lunch provided by club volunteers followed by a scrumptious dinner catered by Jaydog Catering of Arnprior in the evening.
Highlights of the evening included tributes to Isobel Munro by her son Steve Munro and Sandra Tait, recognizing not only her 75 year association with the club and successful curling career but also her outstanding contribution to the community as director of nursing at the Arnprior Hospital. It’s no wonder why this is such a well-supported event.
There was a tight battle for the overall winner of the event with only a few points separating the top three teams. Team Bouwman (Wendy Bouwman, Bill Bouwman, Brenda Wannell and Ted Wannell), pictured below, were victorious in the end, claiming a beautiful trophy. They were followed by Team Hibbard in second and Team Sutherland in third. Congratulations to all three teams for some great curling!
An event of this magnitude takes a great deal of commitment and passion. The outstanding efforts of the mother daughter duo of Sandra and Sarah Tait and their team of volunteers, along with the ice crew, ensured that all aspects of the event were coordinated to a “T”. The success of the event certainly emphasized one of Isobel’s sayings “It takes a team”!
Well done to everyone!
